Moonlight the wolf

Post  moonlight_tiger on Sat Aug 02, 2008 7:31 pm

Dark mist crept up along the trees roots. Fog lingered in the branches as winter commenced in the night. The grass, which looked black in the night, swayed with the silent breeze. White snowflakes drifted from the sky and the black raven flew above the treetops, it’s smoggy breath fulfilling the night.
You could not see the white stars any more, which used to help guide me along with the moon. It was like the sky had abandoned us to fend for our selves.

I swiftly padded past my brothers and sister; it felt like I was flying over the soft stone ground. We were in a rush to find my other brother. I had two brothers and one sister. We were out hunting till late, and my brother Sadon hadn’t returned to our meeting place. Cosmo my father had warned us if we weren’t make by moon high we would be in trouble. I looked hastily at my sister and brother but they just shrugged. It seemed they had already given up but I still had hope of finding him. I ran ahead, looked at every bush and turned to every sound, but it was point less.
“Moonlight.” My sister, Sabu called me. I turned around with her running towards me.
“Quick it’s it’s Orbit, he’s… Sabu stuttered.
“Calm down sis, take a deep breath and tell me, start over.”
“Orbit is in trouble.” She replied clearly. I forgot everything and bolted in the direction she had come. My fur stood up on end as I swept over the snow, I could already smell the stench of the bear mingling with my brothers scent.

I sprinted past fog infected trees and choking on the mist that swelled around me. I could faintly hear the padding of my sister Sabu’s paws when I turned to see her behind me.
“Show me the way to him.” I demanded acting like the older sister I always was. Sabu ran past me and I followed, not used to following someone else’s foot steps. I was wondering how far my other brother Orbit had gotten to, when finally we reached a tall oak tree with Orbit standing horror struck next to it. I quickly jumped by his side with Sabu following. The bear tensed seeing more wolves and backed two steps.
A low growl started in my throat as I glared at it. I was actually very terrified but I would not show this to the grizzly. The bear did not know what to do, it was as if it was planning how it would end our lives the way it’s yellow beady eyes stared into us. It happened all to quick. The bear ran at us as I turned to run with my siblings following. I planned to get as far from this bear as possible so I could continue m quest to find Sadon. The bear must;ve given up because I could now not smell it’s scent. I turned around with my siblings, and the bear was not there.
“Thanks guys.” That was all Orbit could say, he was not used to defeat. It was obvious what we had to do next, we had to stick together and find Sadon.

My sister and brother were padding behind me as we walked through the fogy night. I could hear the beginnings of rain, falling from the cloudy sky. I heard a strange noise coming from the bushes, and two black wolves stood out in front of me and my siblings. I stared with my fur on end, but when I quickly recognized my father and mother my fur relaxed, but then I had to think about what I would tell them about their missing child.

“Where have you been!” My father Cosmo growled.
“Um well it’s hard to explain.” Then I found myself spilling it all out to him, feeling better that I wasn’t always the one to take care of things. “We were hunting then Sadon didn’t return to where we would meet, then Orbit got attacked by a bear so I went with sabu to help attack it. Oh what do I do.”
“I will deal with this matter later we must take into account the first problem. Moonlight, Sabu and Orbite go back to the den, I will get the others to find Sadon. My father glared at me and I knew this wasn’t over.

My head drooped down as we walked back to the den. I was in the lead with Orbit and Sabu following. I had failed as an older sister again, how was I going to succeed from my goal of becoming alpha female if I always fail. My father always said:
“Moonlight, from small things big things happen.” I still don’t understand what he means. I lay with my head on my paws, facing away from the others. I could see they were glancing at me, not knowing whether to come and comfort me. All I wanted now was to curl up and sleep, so that I would forget about all my problems.

I heard the chirping of a blue bird ahead, I opened my eyes slowly in the sun light, blinking. It was morning what I feared. I knew my father would come any time now to rage on about the night before. I lay there not wanting to ever get up, but when I finally did I found it was already sun high and the pack had all ready had breakfast. I yawned and padded over to the loud commotion coming from the meeting area. As I got closer I heard howls of excitement, my tail went up in glee as I saw my brother Sadon standing on the meeting rock with my father. My fathers eyes caught mine and I looked away, but when I looked back his ice blue eyes were focussed on something behind me. I turned and saw the bushes rumbling loudly, too loud for a wolf. The whole pack has turned and stared silently. I narrowed my eyes at the bush when a huge male cougar came charging at me!

I stood frozen to the spot, I saw the cougar charging at me but I couldn’t move. My instincts told me to run. The whole pack scurried around grabbing the pups to hide them. Suddenly the cougar stopped their were more wolves then it would of expected. It stood their then it slowly backed away into the bushes. I quickly inhaled and exhaled as my father quickly stood on the rock to silence the frightened pack.
“SILENCE! We need to prepare, the cougar may come back.” He shouted. I couldn’t hear the rest, I was so shocked. A lot had gone through my mind in that near death experience, so many questions not answered. Would I ever get a mate? Will my father every forgive me? Would my dream of being alpha female ever come true? So many questions I kept asking. I knew it was silly to keep thinking like this and I needed to help the pack but what if that cougar ran that little faster before it realized it was out numbered? What if I never got to say sorry to my father about Sadon? Tears started swelling up and I wiped then away with one paw. I quickly walked up to my father and licked his ear.

“I am so sorry about Sadon I hoped to be a good older sister, but I’ll never be good enough. I am so sorry, he could of died. Why is it always my fault?” I let it all out.
“hush Moonlight please it is not a good time to talk, the cougar could come back!”
I glared at him, obviously he had better things to do then help me. I stormed off into the bushes and sat down, the questions in my head becoming too much.
