Targs life
The wind blew through my fur as I watched my father pluck off the final snippets of meat from the emaciated rabbit carcass, placing it to the side. He buried his nose into the meat and pushed it to my feet, making sure it did not sink through the snow.
“Eat up Targ, this may well be your last meal for a while.” Tigerstar stated with a hint of sadness in his eyes probably thinking about how his mate died, my mother. She died from Dracite an evil, Vampire wolf, which we all fear.
Every time I placed my paw into the icy, cold snow it would sink under, giving me an icy chill that shivered through my spine. Tigerstar was a few paces ahead of me. I could sense his urgency every time he glanced back at me, giving me the look to hurry up.
The moon shone through the clouds, looking like a bright star against the other white specks. Water was dripping from the trees as my father and I were looking for a place to stay for the night, as all rogues do.
I leapt up in joy as Tigerstar announced he found a log, big enough for us to sleep in. I was exhausted and had little energy from the lack of food. So I laid in the log, as Tigerstar rested his black, wet muzzle on my back.
As the days grew on we got weaker and weaker, until my father could not handle it no more.
“Son we must find a pack today, and I mean today.”
“But how? Who will take in a couple of lone wolves who aren’t even strong enough to fee…” I stopped talking abruptly as I heard a low growl from the bushes. My father tail went up and his ears forward towards the sound, I copied. This was a posture we use when alert or listening. A muscular, well fed, dark wolf came from the bushes. I heard a growl start up in his throat. I also sensed his fear. Trying not to show the fear that was swelling up inside me, I picked up the courage to take a step forward, ignoring my dads eyes burning into me.
“Who are you, and why are you here,” I said with a hint of anger in my voice.
“I am here because you need a pack and I am Dracite, but you can call me the Dark Lord.” He said.

Re: Targs life
“ T-T-the D-d-dark Lord….” I stuttered.
“Hush son you have done well, now go into the bushes while we talk.” My father said soothingly. I padded back and found a huge conifer to hide behind. I slipped in between the branches to get closer.
All I could see were two jet-black wolves talking, one with red eyes and my father with yellow eyes glinting in the moonlight.
I looked up at the half moon and thought ‘Why me, why us?’ I could hardly hear them but what I did here was ‘now’ and ‘join.’ I stopped, what on earth were they talking about? My father wouldn’t join him would he..?
I had heard the Dracite had the ability to lure wolves onto his side. And if my dad was lured, Dracite would be after me next. I had to think fast. I quickly jumped out of the conifer and ran. My heavy paws thumping against the soft, snowy ground. I sprinted on never looking back. I probably ran about a mile now and when I finally stopped I thought I would never breathe normally again. I looked behind me; no sign of my father or Dracite. I just stared blankly for a second, startled when a rabbit shot past me. I gazed at it sitting in a bush, my eyes beaming, getting ready for the chase. I slowly stalked it so that I was a little closer; then leapt at it, trying to grab hold of its neck. I was chasing it right at its thumping feet, I dodged when it dodged, running where it ran. I jumped almost flying through the air, but the rabbit dodged abruptly to the side sending me crashing to the ground. I don’t know where it went but I just lay there, not wanting to get up.
I kept in the same position, thinking about my failed hunt and where my father was.
It was a still, cloudless night, with the animals scurrying into their dens and wolves howling in the still night, calling their pack members together to rest in the night.
“Rrr…Who’s this…!” a young voice said humorously.
I woke up with a jerk, blinking my eyes in the sunlight. It was morning, the birds were chirping and the animals were slowly getting up. The snow was slowly being turned to droplets. Spring was coming. I noticed this lump of fur jumping around me teasingly. I cocked my head to one side trying to wonder if I knew this small pup.
“And who might you be?” I asked. The pup looked at me with soft pup eyes. I puffed out my chest, trying not to show any emotion.
“ I’m Adolpha and I am two months old, how old are you?” Adolpha replied, standing still for a few moments, very well interested..
“Why would I give out such valuable information to a vulnerable lone pup, which clearly does not sense the danger she is in!” I said standing up tall.
“Aww! Come on! Don’t be all mature, have some fun, serious wolf!” She said happily, wagging her tail and her tongue lolling out.
“Where is your mother?” I asked. Adolpha brought me to a clump of bushes and there was a gorgeous white wolf.
“Mum! Look what I found!” The white wolf examined me while the pups wandered off playing a game of ‘catch my tail’. I looked at the pup then to the mother; she had a knowing look on her face. I heard a loud rustle of leaves and a bear came charging out, aiming at the pup.
I lunged grabbing the scruff of it’s neck, just missing the dangerous blows of the bear’s paws. I ran to place the pup in a bush while Adolpha’s mother tried to distract the bear, nipping at its side. I glared at the pup.
“Stay here.”
I heard a yelp behind me and turned to run back to the mother. She lay splayed out on the floor with blood running down the side staining her white coat.
The bear was nowhere to be seen. I looked at her and she lifted her head slightly and whispered.
“Please look after Adolpha.” And with that her body wrenched with death as she left the world and left her pup alone in this wretched world. I backed away gradually, turned and there was the pup.
“Adolpha no,” I said. But it was too late she ran past me.
“Mum, oh mother! No, oh no! Lilac! Mother!” She weeped, standing over the body, starting to howl, I bit her side quickly.
“Adolpha stop, you don’t want to bring attention to yourself, the bear might come back.” I bellowed, much too harsh than I’d like. She backed away, with weeping eyes.
“Adolpha….” But I was too late, she curved and ran. I lept after her, evading the trees and puddles that had formed; finally I saw her white tail bounding up and down as she sprang forwards. I tried to catch up but when I looked next she was nowhere to be seen.
“Adolpha! Come back!” I hollered, panicking.
I wandered unconsciously on, looking everywhere I could see. Where was she? I had to find her, I made a promise. I don’t want to break my promise. I walked past tree after tree, bush after bush, with still no sign of her.
I padded along the squashy grass. I heard a bird call and turned around to see that grizzly bear lumbering past. It disappeared from a nearby bush.
‘That was a close on-’ I saw a white bundle of fur on the floor, and gasped.
“No please, not Adolpha…!” I padded up to the small body looking straight down. I moved its head and saw two pointy ears coming off its head. It was a snowy rabbit carcass.
Day after day I walked on, I ate that white rabbit and thought I would be replenished, but it did hardly anything to my hunger. The sharp pain grew to a intensity, and I forgot about Adolpha and hunted the ground to see if I could find a trace of some food. I walked on with my nose to the floor when I hit my head on a tree.
“Stupid tree!” I growled. I picked up a strange scent, it was another wolf. I knew it wasn’t Adolpha but it had tinge to it that told me another wolf pack was lurking around, and that meant trouble!
It was night now, and I curled up next to a large oak tree, it was not my idea of a good den, but it worked.
The next day I struggled on, now feeling the pain in my stomach, forcing me to lie down, for a while but I forced my self to stand up with my legs wobbling. I walked on, through the grassy terrain; my head sagged down, far away from the ground. I noticed that if another wolf saw me they would think I was weak. I walked on and smelled something ahead I put my head to the ground and smelled a delicious smell. I used my remaining energy to move on, seeing an elk carcass ahead of me. I looked around hastily to see if there was another wolf pack around. I was so hungry.. I had to eat! I ran up to it and started eating as much as I could before another wolf came. I ate until the whole elk was nearly gone. I felt much more replenished now and I felt as if I didn’t need to eat in a while. I walked on, my paws crossing over the soft, green grass… I felt happy now. I wasn’t starving and I could feel energy flowing through me. I heard a noise in a bush and then saw 2 eyes peeping from a bush.
“Who’s there?” I growled. A white wolf pup came out from the bush and I quickly recognized it as Adolpha.
“Hi Targ I am sorry I ran away, a big black wolf is trying to help me find you. He is over there somewhere.”
“What! Was his name Dracite?!” I stared in shock.
“Yeah some Drac… thing… but now I found you. I will go and find him.”
“Adolpha! No! He is evil, he is trying to kill me! Quick, we have to go.” Adolpha looked like she didn’t believe me. I grabbed her by the scruff of the neck and took her to a bush.
“Adolpha who do you believe, me or that vampire wolf.”
“Well he was looking at me strangely recently… Oh… Okay let’s go before he comes.” We ran away from that area, wanting to put as much distance from Dracite and us. We padded along and I saw the elk carcass still there, unattended.
“Adolpha do you want some food. Here eat some.” I asked. She sat down and plucked off small pieces of meat. Once she had eaten we walked on. I heard a rustle of leaves and I quickly took Adolpha by the scruff and jumped into a bush. Two black wolves steeped out from the bushes. It was Dracite and Tigerstar. I remembered what my mother had said about making sure they didn’t see me at all costs, so I bent down lower in the bush.
“Where did they go? I knew that pup would of gone with him, I should of killed her straight when I saw her.” Dracite was saying. Adolpha looked scared and let out a squeak.
“Shh…” I said licking her fur. “It’s alright.” Dracite and Tigerstar soon padded off. I noticed I was holding my breath the whole time so I let it out feeling relieved. I looked at Adolpha, she was scared, and I was to.
I looked around, it seemed they weren’t there so I got out of the bush and stretched. Adolpha padded out as well. I backed up and a huge pain shot through me. It felt as if I died. My leg was throbbing. There was blood everywhere. I turned my head and my leg was caught in a human trap. I yelped in pain, trying to pull it out but it only got tighter. Adolpha stared in shock; she didn’t know what to do. I pulled and pulled but it was no use. I looked up and saw Dracite and Tigerstar padding up with a grin on their face.
“So we caught you now Targ, with a human trap.” My father laughed. I glared at them and looked at my father not seeing the warm fatherly look I used to see. Adolpha backed into a bush but Dracite lunged at her grabbing her by the scruff of the neck.
“Don’t hurt her.” I wailed. Dracite looked at Tigerstar and with that he ran off with Adolpha. I glared at my father.
“Dad help me out of this.” I said but he just stared at me.
“Targ I have chosen I new life now. You must accept that.” He finally said.
“Dad your under a spell, under compulsion. He forced you to join. You never wanted to.” I said pleading for him to understand. My father walked up to me and put his teeth on the claws of the human machine. He parted his teeth and it slowly slipped off my leg. I could now feel the pain in my leg getting worse. More blood rushed out and I frantically licked it. My father bent down and licked my wounds as well. I looked into his eyes and he still had white glazed over eyes, which meant he was still under compulsion. I took a step back and he came closer. Dracite must have made him do this. I quickly limped away in the direction of where Adolpha went. I saw a hill up ahead with Dracite with Adolpha standing on it. I lunged at Dracite, biting his back; he pushed me off and turned to face me.
“So Targ has come to the rescue…!” Dracite growled. A sudden realization shook through me. I turned and jumped on my father and bit hard down. I kept holding on and slowly his white glazed over eyes went back to brown. The compulsion spell was gone. He yelped in pain, shaking off any remainder of the spell.
“Dad, quick let’s get him!” We both lunged at him, . I lunged at him as well, we both pinned him down and bit down frantically. Dracite kicked with his legs and threw us off. I saw Adolpha running towards Dracite.
“No Adolpha!” I yelled. Adolpha ran at Dracite and tried to bite his side. He turned around and bit her. I jumped onto Dracite and pushed him into a tree. I felt energy strike through me. I lunged at Dracite and bit hard into him. He turned and howled. Two other wolves came charging in and attacked me. I could tell they were Draculites, followers of Dracite.
I had no time to dodge, one jumped on me pinned me down and the other did the same to my father. I felt weak under the heavy paws. My eyes felt weary, I turned to my side and saw a white figure, and it was a ghost. I blinked my eyes and it was still there. For some odd reason I recognized this wolf. It…it was my mother. She was walking to a tree, I gasped as she looked at me and kicked something silver out from behind the tree. When she saw I had seen it she put it back. It was a silver stake. Silver stakes can kill vampires! I knew what my mother was playing at, I had to get that stake and stab it through Dracite’s heart! I struggled out of the draculites grip; no use. I kicked my legs up and made him fly through the air. I jumped up and ran to the tree, Dracite nodded to his follower to get the pup I could see. I picked up the stake in my jaws and ran up to Dracite. I stared in shock as I jaw Adolpha in his jaws. He mumbled through the muffled fur:
“If you take one more step with that stake I will kill Adolpha.” Had no idea what I was going to do now. I thought about just lunging at Dracite, but he would kill Adolpha. I turned and looked at my father, he was still pinned by the other Draculite. He was probably weak from the compulsion. Adolpha was struggling and biting in his jaws. She lifted up her paw and scratched his nose, but Dracite only bit harder. She yelped in pain. I had no idea what to do and I saw Adolpha try again. She lifted her paw and scratched his eye. He let go and she fell with a bang to the floor. I quickly picked her up and placed her to the side, her neck was squashed. I didn’t have much time so I ran back to Dracite.
I jumped on him trying to pierce his heart with the Stake. He dodged to the side. I turned and saw my father finally out of the Draculites grip. He came to my side and he pinned him down, I saw the Draculite run off. My dad and I pinned him down; I aimed the stake at his heart and pushed down with my paws. It slowly seeped in, with blood spurting out. Dracite looked at his own blood as it ran down his side. I looked at my father and then back down, Dracite’s body was limp and he didn’t move any more.
“Well done son, I always new you would defeat him one day. I am so glad I am not under that compulsion any more...” My father said.
I quickly ran to Adolpha, she was just lying there. I looked at her chest there was no rise and fall of her chest. I stared in shock.
“Adolpha no! Adolpha wake up. Stop playing games!” The white bundle of fur still lay there. I looked at my father, he just shrugged. I licked her fur but she didn’t wake up.
“Adolpha!” I wailed. This couldn’t of happened, it wasn’t fair, and I was supposed to look after her. I was about to walk away when I saw her paw move.
“Adolpha…! You’re alive, oh thank goodness!” I said happily. I leapt up, nuzzling her side and she lifted her head and licked my cheek.
“I love you Targ. You’re the best wolf in the world.” She whispered. I licked her side and we all walked into the setting sun, it’s orange streak across the coming night.
My father, Adolpha and I found the Silver moon pack and joined them. We told them of stories about Dracite and made many friends. Draculites must have left and made their own families. I found out that some took over Dracite’s position of leader. We had not seen a Draculite since and were happy of that. Adolpha was growing up fast and my father was soon to become leader of the Silver Moon Pack. So this is where I must leave you and be a part of the Silver Moon Pack to live the rest of my life protecting Adolpha, and finding a mate…
“Hush son you have done well, now go into the bushes while we talk.” My father said soothingly. I padded back and found a huge conifer to hide behind. I slipped in between the branches to get closer.
