:: Whisper's Story ::
This is all I have done so far because I havn't had enough time. I have bits of chapter two ready, so that should be finished soon =]. Here it is, Enjoy:
Chapter One, the Black Pup
It was almost Spring in the frozen forest. Day after day, a she-wolf named Maya was searching along the river banks - searching for a safe place for her to give birth to her pups. She was so heavy that the fur off her underbelly was nearly touching the cold, snowy grass. As she slowly ran, her mate jumped out in front of her to play with her; however, she quickly stopped with one paw still up in the air as she stared at him with her weary eyes. She was so bad tempered that she snapped at her mate, Malik, whenever he came to close to her.
Malik was one of the most eligible wolves in the territory and beyond. Malik was the strongest, bravest and also the kindest and one of the most dominant. He was as white as the snow and had light blue eyes, exactly like the colour of the sky. His long bushy tail got darker and darker from the hind to the tip of the tail where it was as dark as the night sky. He was always wanted by other she-wolves, but he declined and stayed with his favourite, Maya. Maya was a very lucky wolf, many fought with her, but she always succeeded, usually with the help of Malik. They left the pack to start their own and to start a fresh new life. They knew it would be easy because they knew all the wolves in the area of which they were befriended with. Whenever a wolf was in need, they were there to help. However, this time they happily left the Falls Creek Pack a challenge to take care of them and their fellow pack members, hunt together and teach each other’s young. Maya had lots of pup friends. Hope, Joy, and Fait all wept as she left and Roger ran straight to her to try and stop her. Their parents told them to stay away, for it was Maya and Malik’s choice, and the Pack members had to go with it.
Malik, as keen as his nose, gently walked up to Maya to give her a supple kiss, she hesitated and growled. He filled up his furry chest with air, and softly sighed, “Relax” he said, as he tried to lick her again. She continued to stare, then, all of the sudden she growled submissively and turned away to continue her search. Maya went on and Malik followed. They continued to search until they found a cave above a small stream. She went through its narrow entrance and crawled along the walls widened into a little room about six feet across. It was dry and cosy there. Maya circled several times, her nose to the ground. Then with a tired sigh, she curled her body on the ground. Malik laughed at her and wagged his tail. Hey lay down across the entrance and slept. Soon, the April sunshine began to blaze across the snow. The world was waking up after a log winter. Malik slowly opened his eyes and lifted his head, to see the giant sun shining from below the mountains and trees. Malik wanted to take Maya hunting with him, but when he tried to persuade her to go with him, she snarled. So he went out alone.
Malik came back eight hours later with no food at all. He was much hungrier than when he had left. He paused at the entrance of the cave and sniffed. He could hear strange, faint muffled sobbing noises. His mate snarled a warning when he came near. The morning moon light lit up the dark and cave for him to find feeble and helpless pups. One pup was different from the rest. All three of the other pups showed the same orange-tinted coat as their mother, but this pup was black like his tail. He took after his father’s tail! "Ah-OOOOOOO" He rejoiced as he saw the tail. He knew that little wolf will be his very best friend and will take after his strength, kindness and dominance. The black pup's eyes had not been open for long, but already he could see clearly. His world was as big as the cave. He knew that one wall of the cave was different - the mouth of the cave where the light was. He kept crawling towards it, and his mother kept pulling him back. For a few hours, the couple sat in the cave, watching the weak newly-born pups bite and play with each other.
By this time, Maya was getting less and less agitated. “What shall we call them” She smiled whispering “how about I let you, and only you, choose that little black pup’s name. “Really, but wh-“ He tried to ask “I’ve been watching you, you seem to really like him, and he likes you, so far he’s been the only thing on your mind. You just can’t stop staring at him” She giggled. “Alright” he grinned happily “I’ll think of some names”. Malik lay down watching the little pup suckle his mother’s underbelly. He laughed as the pup pushed away the others to get to the warmest spot. The half red, half white pup tried to jump onto the black pup; however, he quickly lifted his head to see what was coming at him and rolled over. Malik and Maya looked at each other and gently smiled. “What about...” He thought, “What” Maya asked. “Never Mind, it was a silly name I thought of...”
“No, tell me”,
”You won’t like it”,
“It’s not for me to decide”,
“Alright”,
“So what was it?”
“Kai”
She looked to the pup and slowly put her head down, “I told you that you wouldn’t like it” sighed Malik. “No, I love it” She said tearfully “It seems like a tough name” she smiled. Malik got up and slowly walked up to Maya and the pups, “now we need names for these three little critters”. He lay down behind Maya and she leaned against him.
